On April 14, the 13 founder teams will present their businesses at the Demo Day in Berlin. Around 250 investors, founders, mentors and media representatives are gathering together at the Ahoy! Berlin co-working space for the final EuropeanPioneers event.

What has changed for the 13 EuropeanPioneers startups since the second round of funding began in August 2015? An awful lot – that much can be said already. It was only recently that the startup Splash won the esteemed Accelerator Award for the “Virtual Reality” category at the SXSW Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas (the relevant press release can be found here). This caused a stir – and not only among startup media outlets. Other founder teams such as BEACONInside and CHOPCHOP have successfully launched their products, or are just about to. Many of the startups were also able to successfully secure additional investors and sponsors. At the Demo Day on April 14, the young entrepreneurs will gather together again to give presentations about the milestones they have achieved and their next steps.
In August 2015, the 13 startups from Berlin, London, Esbjerg, Barcelona and Tel Aviv prevailed against a total of over 660 applicants from 42 countries and were accepted onto the EuropeanPioneers accelerator program. As well as providing funding of 175,000 euros per startup, the program also included business-related assistance. This meant that the founding teams were able to use FIWARE technology free of charge and they received extensive coaching and guidance from international startup experts. This ranged from developing the business model and performing user testing right through to marketing the business idea.
The ideas put forward by the startups represented a very broad range of sectors and areas, including agricultural technology, food, energy, smart cities, the Internet of Things (IoT), media & content and EdTech. An overview of the various founding teams and a look back to the start of the second round of funding can be found here.
In the coming days and weeks leading up to the Demo Day, we plan to present each of the startups in a little more detail here on the blog. If you wish to see the founding teams in person in Berlin on April 14, you can already register for the event via Eventbrite.
