Following the success of the first event last year, a second Digital Finance Berlin conference will take place on October 6, 2016. This year’s conference, which is organized by the Berlin School of Digital Business and FinTechCube, will focus on the following topic: An open banking platform – how banks can build their own fintech supermarkets. The event aims to gather together decision makers from the banking and fintech sectors so that they can discuss technical matters together. It also aims to communicate key ideas that will stimulate innovation in the financial sector.

How can partnerships between banks and fintechs be successful?

What will the digital financial market look like in the future? How can financial service providers make a success of digital transformation? And how can partnerships between banks and fintechs be successful? These are the kinds of questions that will be discussed at the Digital Finance Berlin conference on October 6. This year’s edition of the event will once again feature top-level speakers, who were recruited by etventure subsidiaries Berlin School of Digital Business and FinTechCube – a joint venture between FintechStars and the Munich-based provider of data and software FINANCE BASE.

In a keynote speech entitled ‘Co-creation with fintechs creates opportunities for banks,’ Professor Dr. Lars Hornuf will present the key findings of his study about the fintech market in Germany. Additionally, fintech expert André M. Bajorat will provide an overview of the development of the open banking platform. Other speakers include Dieter Fromm, Founder and Managing Director of moneymeets.com, Ulrich Coenen, Head of Digital Transformation at Commerzbank, and Johannes Pfeuffer, Head of Product Management for the ‘Guidants’ platform at BörseGo AG.

FinSlam: Established financial service providers vs. digital players

There is also the opportunity for banks and fintechs to take each other on in the FinSlam, which involves presenting a digital solution that relates to the topic of ‘open banking platforms’ in the form of a short pitch to the audience. Commerzbank, DKB and UBS will be representing the established financial service providers, while Guidants/BörseGo AG, moneymeets and treefin will be competing on behalf of the ‘young guns.’ Dr. Christian Storck and Dr. Daniel A. Pauly from Linklaters will explain the legal aspects of successful collaborative relationships between banks and fintechs. Speed networking sessions will then provide opportunities to discuss various options for collaboration.
